Already a large number of Hindu refugees had been fleeing from Hyderabad territory to adjacent Indian provinces. The meeting lasted about 15 minutes. A day or so earlier, when Cariappa had met the Sardar at his residence, an incident had taken place on the then Bombay-Hyderabad border. Perhaps Cariappa knew what this call was about.
